Private Commissions

Collaborative work for Signature and Origin series

Private commissions are accepted on a limited basis for Signature and Origin series knives. Commissions are collaborative but guided by material integrity and performance rather than trends.

“Every blade I create results from an artistic passion to authentically represent historical traditions through knowledge gained from archaeological source material and extensive training with masters in the field.”

What Can Be Commissioned

Commissions are available for Signature and Origin series only

Tier II

Signature Series

Semi-Regular Availability

Available Materials

  • W2 monosteel (differential hardening)
  • Shirogami (White Paper Steel)
  • Stainless san-mai (410/1084 core)
  • Go-mai (1084/copper)
  • High-layer Damascus

Signature commissions allow selection of material type, blade style, and handle preferences within the constraints of what the materials and construction methods support.

Tier III

Origin Series

By Inquiry Only

Available Materials

  • Oroshigane (handmade bloom steel)

Origin commissions are extremely limited due to the time required to smelt, refine, and forge handmade steel. These represent the deepest engagement with material origin and traditional steelmaking.

The Commission Process

01

Initial Inquiry

Submit an inquiry describing your interest, intended use, and any preferences for material or blade style. This begins the conversation.

02

Discussion

We discuss intent, use case, and preferences in detail. This is collaborative—your input shapes the direction, while material and construction constraints guide what’s possible.

03

Design & Quote

Based on our discussion, I provide a design proposal and quote. This includes material selection, approximate dimensions, and handle approach. Adjustments are made before final agreement.

04

Deposit & Scheduling

A deposit secures your place in the queue. Scheduling depends on current workload and material availability. You’ll receive an estimated completion window.

05

Forging & Updates

As the blade progresses, you’ll receive updates at key stages. The process unfolds as the steel dictates—some decisions are made at the forge based on how the material responds.

06

Completion & Delivery

Final balance is due upon completion. The blade ships fully finished with care instructions and documentation of materials and construction.

What to Expect

Extended Timelines

Quality forging cannot be rushed. Expect timelines measured in months, not weeks. Origin series work requires even longer due to the steelmaking process.

Material Reality

Not everything is possible with every material. Some requests may need adjustment based on what the steel and construction method support. Honesty guides every conversation.

Collaborative Process

Your input matters, but so does the material. The best commissions emerge from dialogue—your vision balanced with forge-informed decision making.

Frequently Asked

How is pricing determined?

Each commission is quoted individually based on material, complexity, blade style, and handle work. Signature series and Origin series have different starting points reflecting material and process demands.

What if I need changes after deposit?

Minor adjustments are usually possible before forging begins. Significant changes may affect timeline and cost. Once forging starts, the blade’s path is largely set by the steel itself.

Is there a waitlist?

Commission slots open periodically. If current availability doesn’t align with your timeline, you may request to be notified when the next opening occurs.

Can I commission Foundation series?

Foundation series knives are produced as available inventory rather than custom commissions. Check the shop regularly or sign up for notifications when new Foundation pieces are listed.

Looking for Historic Arms?

Historic arms commissions (seax, swords, axes, spears) are handled separately from kitchen blade work. These projects require extended research and timelines. Learn more about Historic Arms commissions.
